KOTA KINABALU – Sabah film industry implements captive market in businesses to make profit said Patron of Kadazan Dusun Murut Sabah Filmmaker and Music Association (KDMFM), Tony Francis Gitom.

He said Sabah is populated by multicultural people with diverse background and the film industry could tap into this norm by creating and selling movies in many languages.

“Sabah is populated by Kadazan, Dusun, Rungus, Bajau, Murut and other races. Sabah film industry can only gain profit by filming in native languages in order to attract their interest,” he said.

Sabah film industry could not compete with industry in Kuala Lumpur as filmmakers in Sabah have budget and financial constraint Tony said.

“The only way our film industry can survive is by doing captive market and create a lot of movies in different languages as we can’t compete with KL movies that always have bigger budget.”

He also urged Sabahans to support their local movies in order to support to Sabah film industry. – By Saila Saidie/Sayangsabah
