KOTA KINABALU – A talk on “The Truth about Cancer” will be one of the highlights for the Rotary Healthcare Day on April 18 to be held at the Suria Sabah Shopping Mall.
Sabahan Associate Professor Dr Ho Gwo Fuang from University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) will be the speaker for the topic.
Dr. Ho’s who is a clinical oncologist/radiotherapist at UMMC and University Malaya Specialist Centre, Kuala Lumpur is a specialist on cancer disease where his research interests involve breast, gastrointestinal and gynecological cancers.
He is involved in many national and international collaborative research work which granted him an award of Joint Commission International (JCI) Outstanding Young Malaysian Award in 2009 for medical innovation.
A council member of Malaysian Oncological Society (MOS), Dr. Ho heads the MOS Cancer Healthcare Advocacy Committee (CHAC), championing cancer patients’ rights in Malaysia.
He is also the oncology lead for CIGMIT stereotactic radiosurgery project at the University, as well as sub-investigators for UM High Impact Research (HIR) Grant projects.
Apart from Dr Ho, two other specialist speakers; Dr. Premadeva who is a Fellow in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (N. Ireland) and currently attached with Hospital Kanak-Kanak Likas will give a talk on “Lifestyle Diseases”.
A Consultant Physician and Geriatrician at QEH Dr Peter Selestine will speak on “Healthy Ageing”.
Dr Peter’s special interest is in Dementia, Delirium and Heart Failure in elderly.
