Rotary Club to hold Healthcare Day at Suria Sabah

KOTA KINABALU – A Healthcare Day jointly organised by the seven Rotary Clubs of Kota Kinabalu (Group 18) will be held at the Suria Shopping Complex on April, 18.

The event which is the first of its kind is led by the Organizing Chairman, Francis Chan together with the Assistant Governor of Rotary, Lu Kim Phin with collaboration with the government hospitals including Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1, Hospital Wanita dan Kanak-Kanak Sabah, Hospital Mesra and private hospitals namely, KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital, Jesselton Medical Centre and Gleneagles Hospital.

The objective of this event is to bring health awareness to the general public. The Healthcare Day will provide visitors with free health services that includes health services such as eye and vision screening, BMI checks, glucose test, hemoglobin (thalassemia) test and blood pressure measurement.

One of the main highlights of the event is a special talk by renown medical practitioners on health subjects like lifestyle diseases (by Dr Premadeva), healthy ageing (by Dr Peter Selestine) and a session with Sabahan very own specialist Associate Professor Dr Ho Gwo Fuang of University Malaya Medical Centre who will speak on the “Truth about Cancer”.

Apart from the free health services many other activities including children handprint fun colouring followed by various activities will be held.

There will also be an exhibition booths from ten non-government organizations that includes the Sabah Kidney Association, NASAM, Sabah Alzheimer, Kinabalu Pink Ribbon, Sabah Family Planning Association, Sabah Society for the Blind, Sabah Society for the Deaf, Thalassemia Association Sabah, Diabetes Association and Malaysian Red Crescent Society.

The Director of State Health Department Dr Christina Rundi is expected to launch the ceremony.
