KOTA KINABALU: Road users are urged to be more responsible in order to reduce cases of road accident during the holiday.
Sabah Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Development, Datuk Bobbey Suan, said as road users, the public should remind themselves to uphold their responsibility for their own safety of and others.
“This is because the rate of road accidents recorded last year had made everyone worried.
“Based on PDRM’s statistic for the previous year, the state has recorded 29 deaths in December alone with an average of one fatality everyday,” he said when met at the launching of the Road Safety Campaign, here.
With 420 deaths related to accidents, he stressed that road users should be mindful when driving as to reduce such cases in the future.
Meanwhile, Bobbey also commended the continuous effort of the Road Safety Department (JKJR) with other agencies in organizing campaigns to raise road safety awareness, including the previous event that was held for the state level.
He said the campaign is held at the right time since it is the beginning of school holiday and the public are preparing on celebrating Christmas at the end of December.
“With the coming of school holiday, many will travel far with families with their vehicles.
“The campaign will make drivers aware on the importance of safety before starting their holiday,” he explained.
He also advised road users to plan head for their journey by preparing their physical, emotion, and mental, besides from ensuring that their vehicles are in good condition.
