KENINGAU: A local man was punished with RM20,000 fine for possessing boar meat without a permit.
The accused, Ho Yu Kiong, 47, received the sentence from Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz at Keningau Magistrate Court, in Monday.
The accused who was unrepresented admitted guilty for the charge read against him.
According to the case fact, in 11hb June 2015, around 5.13pm, a team of Sabah Wildlife Department enforcers led by Joseph Fabian Sipaut, was holding a roadblock at KM 5 Jalan Keningau – Sook, and stopped the accused who was driving a 3-tonne white Daihatsu lorry, with registration number SAB 9923C.
inspection discovered that the lorry was carrying 296kg of boar meat, which has been identified to be from the Bearded Pig (Sus barbatus), a protected species under Schedule 3 of the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997.
However, the accused was permitted to pay the fine in instalment within a four months period. -SayangSabah
