KOTA KINABALU: Since 1974, more than 35,000 students across the country had benefitted from Petronas education sponsorship amounting to RM2.9 billion.
With its focus on the socioeconomic development in its operation and investment locations including Sabah, the nation’s oil and gas company never forget its social corporate responsibility for the people especially in education.
In this matter, Petronas Malaysia Upstream Senior Vice President, Datuk M. Anuar Taib, said the company will remain active in implementing its human resource development initiative by providing scholarship for qualified students.
“Petronas education sponsorship is one of the company’s main programme to contribute towards a sustainable human resource development in Malaysia, besides from providing supports in skills and technical trainings,” he said.
He was giving his speech during the Petronas Education Sponsorship Awards for 214 students, officiated by the Deputy Chief Minister, Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan who represented the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Aman.
Realizing on the importance of skilled and professional workforce, Anuar said the young generation in Sabah also get the opportunity to further their studies at Petronas University of Technology or other universities under the company’s education sponsorship.
“I hope that they (students) will return to Sabah to encourage the participation of local young generation to contribute in the development of oil and gas sector in the state,” he said.
He added that Petronas is proud with the competency and capabilities of workforce that has been developed in the local oil and gas sector.
In Sabah, he said, Petronas has invested in the Kimanis Hydro Station, Sabah Ammonia Urea Project (Samur), and Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT) in Sipitang. – SayangSabah
