KOTA KINABALU: The Works Department (JKR) proposed for a RM10 million budget in the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK-11) to be used for road upgrade in Donggongon, Penampang.
Sabah Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Development, Datuk Bobbey Suan, said the main factor for road congestion in Donggongon is due to the lack of parking facilities and roads unable to accommodate the rising traffic capacity.
“The lack of these infrastructures has affected the traffic flow especially during peak hours such as the Tamu event,” he said during the DUN Assembly.
He was responding to Dr Edwin @Jack Bosi (DAP-Kapayan) regarding on the government’s plan to handle the serious traffic problem in Donggongon, Penampang.
Bobbey also said JKR has taken several steps to handle the issue including by expanding and upgrading the Jalan Donggongon-Papar.
“Roads at the area are being upgraded to dual two-lane and the construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2016,” he added.
The government, he said, is also planning to upgrade the road network from Donggongon conjunction up to Kg. Kolopis to dual two-lane highway as part of the Pan Borneo Highway network.
He also said the detailed design for the project will begin next year with its construction to begin in 2017. –SayangSabah
