Restaurant owner fined for sheltering illegals

KOTA KINABALU: A restaurant owner  was fined RM15,000 in default six months jail  by the Sessions Court, today, for sheltering three men without travel permits in his premise.

Norizan Zakaria, 34, admitted guilty before Judge Azreena Aziz for the crime he committed at Keningau Immigration Department at 12.30pm in 2 December last year.

He was charged under Section 55E(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 which carries the punishment of up to RM30,000 fine, twelve months jail maximum, or both, for each illegal immigrant.

According to the case fact, around 8.30am to 8.40am, Norizan who owned a restaurant in Tambunan allowed three illegals to live at his premise.

In mitigation, he pleaded for a minimum punishment and applied for the fine to be paid in instalment within 30 days period.
