BUTTERWORTH: Two friends escaped drowning when their yacht was hit by strong waves while sailing in the waters off Perai here last night.
Operations Commander of the Penang Fire and Rescue Department, Fire Officer Khairul Anuar Kamaruddin said the department received a telephone call about the incident at about 9.07 pm before rushing to the location.
“As soon as we reached the beach, the father of one of the victims informed us that his son, Mohd Hasnul Jasni, 31, and his friend Mohd Shamzul Zaki, 33, had been blown off course while sailing in the waters there.
“They were said to be still on the yacht and could not paddle as their equipment was faulty,” he said here today.
He added that the fire department launched a search-and-rescue operation for the two men before being informed that both were found safe by a Penang Port Sdn Bhd boat on patrol.
The two tired men were found at 10 pm before they were sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment.- BERNAMA
