Keningau: Farmers should utilise the weekly market (tamu) to sell their crops and food products.
The government’s initiative in organizing weekly market is to improve the economy of farmers from the rural areas and to encourage them to venture business, Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Datuk Sairin Karno said.
“Tamu has been the focal point for villagers to sell their agriculture products since time immemorial,” he said in his speech for officiating Tamu Simpang Rancangan Pamalan Jamil Yusuf, here yesterday.
The Liawan State Assemblyman (ADUN) is also urging traders and suppliers to reduce their prices following the recent fall of global oil price which is also felt by the country.
Business owners must be fair with the consumers who have been burdened with the increase of prices, and as the oil price has fallen, traders and suppliers must also reduce their prices of goods.
“There is no reason for traders not to decrease their prices of goods because when the oil price was high, they increase their prices; claiming high transportation cost. But now they have to reduce their prices of goods following the falling price of oil,” he explained.
According to him, if there are traders who raise their prices of goods, consumers should make a report at the Enforcement Division branch of Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-Operatives and Consumerism. – SayangSabah
