KOTA KINABALU: A local man was fined RM4,500 in default five months jail by the Magistrate Court  for reckless driving.

Lise Bakkasa, 63, committed the offense while he was driving his Toyota Hilux at the U turn near Kg. Lokuk, Sepanggar, at 11.55am in 30 October 2012.

Lise was charged under Section 43(1) of the Road Transportation Act 1987 which carries the punishment of RM4,000 to RM10,000 fine, and up to twelve months jail.

According to the case fact, the on-duty traffic officer received a call from the public, reporting that an accident had occurred at the location.

Investigation discovered that the accident was caused by the accused when he made a U turn and crashed with a motorcyclist at the main lane.

In mitigation, Lise’s defense attorney, Sazalye Donol, applied for a lighter sentence since the accused has no job and it was his first offense.

Previously the accused was charged under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transportation Act 1987.

Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie ordered for Lise’s driving license to be endorsed.
