KOTA KINABALU:Sabahan students who are currently pursuing their education in Taiwan are encouraged by Taiwan alumni’s contribution to education development in Sabah.
Minister of Special Tasks Datuk Teo Chee Kang said that during a courtesy call by the Taiwan Alumni Association of Sabah president Lawrence S.H. Ting and committee members recently.
Before the establishment of the almuni in Sabah, degrees obtained from Taiwanese universities were not recognized here, Teo said.
The alumni’s hard work and perseverance as well as their remarkable achievements resulted in this recognition, according to him.
Teo accepted an invitation by the association to grace the Chinese New Year cultural show held at the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) here on March 17.
“The aim of the cultural show is to raise fund to assist Sabahan students who wish to further their studies in Taiwan. The fund raised will be offered as student loans to students from poor family background,” Ting said adding that the association aimed to raise RM 1.2 million through the event.
He said the association has raised RM 900,000 to date, thanks to donations by Taiwan alumni. Ting believed that the association could achieve the target of RM 1.2 million.
Ting added that the Chinese New Year cultural show would also be held at Tenom community hall on March 15 to raise fund for Tenom Tshung Tsin Secondary School to build an information technology (IT) building. -By Bosco Wong/Sayangsabah.
