KOTA KINABALU: Proper categorisation of Sabah and Sarawak natives is needed to reflect Malaysians’ diverse roots, said Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) deputy president, Arthur Joseph Kurup.
He said ethnic categorisation was still necessary for data collection of the people in this country.
“This is to ensure that government policies, especially government assistance, are carried out effectively and that any assistance should benefit the target group.
“It also allows us to monitor the development of minorities and determine the policies relevant to them,” he said in a statement, here, today.
He said this in welcoming Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s confirmation at the PBRS Triennial Delegates Conference on Nov 1 that the government had decided to remove the ‘others’ column in official government forms.
Arthur said the government should engage all the relevant stakeholders, including historians and academicians, to determine the proper categorisation.- BERNAMA
