KOTA KINABALU: Women Prison Department is always prepared to provide skills training courses for its inmates in order to help them to find employment after serving their punishment.
Its Director, Nora Musa, said local inmates participating in trainings such as seamstress or pastries are also given certificates from the Department of Skills Development (JPK) that are recognized by the government.
“Level One or Two Certificates provided by JPK is on par with other skills certificates provided by other college institutions,” she said when met during the department’s Raya Open House.
She said the prison department also find ways to help inmates to get employed before they are released.
“Hopefully the community will be more open in accepting them and give opportunities for former prison convicts to get appropriate job,” she said.
She also said various products made by prison inmates are also sold to the public at premises nearby the prison department headquarters and at agriculture markets.
“We also provide laundry service and sewing for the public,” she added. – SayangSabah
