LABUAN;-At least 18 personnel from the Labuan branch of the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) are going
round on this duty-free island to curb unscrupulous traders from manipulating prices during the Chinese New Year festive season.
Labuan KPDNKK acting director, Aslani Dabi said the monitoring was to give consumers “stress-free” shopping at the wet markets and supermarkets during this festive period.
He said the Labuan KPDNKK had fixed the maximum price for 12 controlled items – live chicken at RM6.30 per kg, standard chicken (RM9.30/kg), super chicken (RM9.50/kg), Grade A chicken egg (41 sen), Grade B chicken egg (40 sen) and Grade C chicken egg (39 sen), imported round cabbage [excluding Beijing cabbage] (RM3.50/kg), garlic [China] (RM6.50/kg), white pomfret (RM39/kg), large
banana prawn (RM24/kg), pork [belly] (RM23/kg) and pork [lean and fat] (RM20/kg).
“The price of the controlled items is being monitored since Feb 14 until Feb 25,” Aslani said in a statement, here, today.
He also assured the people that there was sufficient supply of all items to cater to the festive season.
“Traders should place pink price tags on the controlled items to differentiate them from other goods and are encouraged to sell them lower than
the stipulated price,” he said.- BERNAMA
