KOTA KINABALU: The Liberal Democratic Party youth movement and Commission of Sabah Affair (COSA) will be jointly organise a one day ‘Disaster Preparedness Training’ course on March 28, at Promenade Hotel.

Organising chairman David Ong, said the course to be conducted by International Disaster Response Network (IDRN) will be attended by 120 persons representing 40 organisations including government agencies, non-governmental organisations, churches and youth groups.

“The course will train and prepare individuals, regardless of their background, to survive and respond  to a disaster,” he said when paying a courtesy call on Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir to invite him as the guest of honour to officiate at the event.

“The IDRN offers training courses for groups and communities all around the world. The training will introduce international standards and practices so that those trained could participate in a disaster relief operation anywhere in the world,” Ong said.

“It is our hope to set up a Local Coordination Centre (LCC) in Kota Kinabalu after the training course. It will be a base to train others. It is an early warning centre and a rescue operation centre when disaster strike. We cannot waste any more time,” he said, adding that It may be dry weather now but rain will come again and if another flood threatens this year, they want to be ready.- Sayangsabah
