SEMPORNA: The Region Four Marine Police Force (PPM) issued 17 summonses for various offences against boats operating in the waters
of Semporna under the ‘Operasi Selamat Laut’ operation yesterday.
Region Four PPM commander ACP Mohamad Madun said 44 local boats were inspected in the operation between 7 am and 11 am.
“The summonses were issued under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance and the cases were investigated under the Ports and Harbours Enactment 2002,” he said in a statement today.
He said the operation focused on all kinds of sea transportation, including fishing and tourist vessels, to ensure passenger safety and the enforcement of the ordinance.
He said six men and five women were detained during the operation under the Immigration Act and handed over to the Semporna police station, he said. – BERNAMA
