SEMPORNA: Semporna Marine Police Division (PPM) has inspected 37 boats operating at the waters off Semporna Port during the three-hour Ops Tugas Khas.

Sabah Zone 4 PPM Commander, ACP Mohammad Madun, said they also inspected the crews consisting of 197 locals and 82 registered foreigners.

Prior to the documentation and screening during the operation, 17 cases have been recorded under the Port and Harbours Enactment 2002 with RM1,700 worth of compounds issued.

Mohammad said license of boat owners who are found committing offences regarding on equipment safety will be seized by the Ports and Harbours Department until proper equipment are installed by boat owners as a condition to resume operation.

Nine personnel including officers were involved in the operation that began at 7.30am until 12.30pm which is aimed to examine boats operating at the area. –SayangSabah
