KOTA KINABALU: Power disruption in Kiulu was caused by trees and landslides damaging SESB electrical lines.
Sabah Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Development, Datuk Bobbey Suan, said SESB has aggressively carried out activities to cut tree branches interrupting its power line by taking in more contractors to do the job.
“This effort is fruitful in reducing the occurrence of power disruption compared to previous years.
“From February 2015 until August 2015, SESB spent Rm19 million for tree-cutting works across Sabah, with RM1.86 million is used for Tuaran and Kiulu,” he said during the DUN Assembly.
He was responding to the question of Datuk Joniston Bangkuai (Kiulu) on the frequent electricity outage at the area and the follow-up actions that have been taken.
Bobbey said the activity has improved the efficiency level of electricity supply line in Kiulu with the Average System Disruption Period is reduced from 6-9 minutes per month to 2-3 minutes.
He also said several projects to replace uninsulated overhead wires to Aerial Bundied Cable (ABC) wires have been done with some still ongoing, with RM0.4 million has been utilized by SESB for these projects from September 2014 to August 2015.
Previously he said power suppliers for Kiulu mostly used uninsulated wires. –SayangSabah
