PUTRAJAYA: The government has handed over to the police to investigate the meeting between Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar and the daughter of Jamalul Kiram III, Jacel H. Kiram.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the investigation papers on the matter would be submitted to the Attorney General for further action.
“In this case, the government felt that the meeting was not welcomed as it seems to challenge and place the people of Sabah as victims of the acts done by the Sultanate of Sulu, especially the family of Jamalul Kiram,” he told a media conference at his office in Perdana Putra building here today.
Earlier Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, received a courtesy call from Indonesia Coordinating Minister for Security, Law and Political Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitand.
The issue was sparked after Princess Jacel H Kiram uploaded pictures of her meeting with Nurul Izzah in her Facebook account went viral.
Ahmad Zahid said generally the government was open and celebrated the differences in opinion among politicians of different views in certain issues but stressed the matter should not have happened as it involved the country’s sovereignty and security.
Describing the act of the Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament as not being welcomed, he said the meeting was as if it was an ‘acknowledgement’ by Nurul Izzah that the Sulu Sultanate was behind the armed intrusion incident in Lahad Datu in 2013.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the incident in Lahad Datu was not an isolated case or merely a political case as it involved the issue of security, sovereignty and defence of the country.
“…and if there are politicians who meet with the mastermind of the Lahad Datu incident. it indirectly shows the recognition of the individual or political party for the people who intruded the country,” he said.- BERNAMA
