KENINGAU: Police have seized 200 cartons of cigarettes from various brands belonged to a 34-year-old foreign man.
District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Douglas Nyeging Taong, said the suspect was apprehended while he was loading the contraband to a motorcycle near one of the market in the district at 1.35pm, yesterday.
“Suspect is remanded until 22 July and the case is investigated under Section 135 (1) (d) 1967 of the Customs Act,” he said.
According to him, the offence is punishable with a fine ten to twenty times of the customs price of seized goods or jailed up to three years, or both. – SayangSabah
