IPOH: Two police patrol officers sustained injuries after their motorcycles were knocked down on purpose by a car at Jalan Bidor here yesterday.
In the 10.30 pm incident, Lance Corporal Muhaini Mahamawi, 26, suffered a swollen leg, while Constable K. Sivaprakasam, 22, sustained injuries on his arm and leg, and currently warded at Tapah Hospital.
Tapah police chief Supt Som Sak Din Keliaw said the officers were patrolling at the Kampung Chang Bridge in Jalan Paku, Bidor, when they spotted a couple behaving suspiciously in a Perodua Kancil car.
“When the officers approached the couple for inspection, they sped off towards Jalan Bruseh, but the officers quickly gave chase and ordered the couple to pull over.
“The car, however, continued speeding until they reached the traffic light junction heading to Kampung Poh and suddenly made a u-turn and rammed into Sivaprakasam’s motorcycle, causing the constable to be thrown onto the road.
“The car then reversed and rammed into Sivaprakasam’s machine again before moving on towards Muhaini. Luckily, she managed to jumped off the motorcycle and watched as it was knocked down by the car, which then sped off towards Bidor,” he told Bernama when contacted today.
However, Som Sak said about half an hour later, police detected and stopped the car at Km61 Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur and a man, aged 21, from Tapah, and a women, aged 19, from Bidor, were arrested.
The man was also tested positive for drug and both of them have been remanded for seven days to facilitate further investigation into the case, he said. – BERNAMA
