KOTA KINABALU: Police denied rumours claiming the presence of IS threat in Kota Kinabalu.
The rumour was spread in the social media, allegedly claiming that the state capital is under IS threat and the police assembled at Le Meridien Hotel armed with tanks sent from Lok Kawi.
District Police Chief, ACP M. Chandra, said the increase of police control around Kota Kinabalu was made to control peace and protect public safety, as well as preventing crimes during Chinese New Year.
“The heightened security at the hotel is a standard SOP for VIP security at their lodging,” he said.
he also urged the public not to spread news or information not verified by the authority. the unsubstantial information is breaking the law since it can cause the public to panic. -SayangSabah
