Playing firecrackers not part of Islamic cultures

TAWAU: Playing firecrackers with the coming of Aidilfitri celebration by the young generation should be avoided as it is wasting money and not based on Islamic teachings.

Tanjong Batu Assemblyman (ADUN), Datuk Hamisa Samat, said the youth should be doing charity works and involved with welfare activities during the month of Ramadan, instead of playing firecrackers.

“Maybe there are still many among the community who have not realize that firecrackers do not originate from Islamic cultures; Raya Aidilfitri should be celebrated with the appropriate Islamic cultures.

“In this matter, we hope that today’s generation is no longer influenced with other cultures that may affect us all with rampant smuggling of firecrackers following to its high demand from the Muslim community themselves (during celebration),” she said.

She was giving her speech during the programme to prepare 2,000 packets of chicken porridge for Ramadan, organized by Tawau USIA Women, and also to present donations for orphans and single mothers at Kg. Tanjong Batu, Tawau, yesterday.

Hamisa said firecrackers are illegal and pose risks of staring fire incident and can cause injuries.

In this regard, she hopes for the Muslim community to take part in beneficial activities during Ramadan such as helping the less fortunate to have a more meaningful Aidilfitri. – SayangSabah
