Plans to help villagers affected with soil erosion problems

TENOM: Plans for restoration and prevention of soil erosion in several villages near Pegalan River and Padas River in Tenom district will be submitted to related parties.

Though the restoration and prevention works on the riverbanks will need a huge allocation, the Barisan National (BN) government is committed to solve the problem for the villagers safety in the area.

Sabah Minister of Rural Development, Datuk Radin Malleh, said the villages affected by the problem are Kg. Ponontomon, Batu-Batu, Tinibui, Ulloi Atas, Makapau,  Naluyan, and Liuh.

“I have ordered Tenom District Office and Community Development Leaders Unit to monitor the problem and gather information on soil erosion which is happening in the district,” he said to the media after visiting the affected area near Padas River and Pelan River, here yesterday.

Radin also urged the JKKK committees to be proactive and alert in reporting soil erosion problems in their area to the government especially the district office for immediate actions. – SayangSabah
