KOTA KINABALU: PETRONAS donated two rescue boats to the Disaster Emergency Committee of Sipitang recently as part of its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives, to ease the burden residents of Mesapol during floods.
The boats were officially handed over by Encik Hamdan Hassan, Head of Dalak Project of PETRONAS’ Upstream Malaysia Business to Encik Latip Bin Amat, Sipitang’s District Officer, and Chairman of Disaster Emergency Committee, who was represented by Sipitang Assistant District Officer Matlin Dullah at a community gathering on 28 February 2015 at the Mesapol community hall.
The event was also witnessed by Sipitang Member of Parliament YB Datuk Hj. Sapawi Hj. Ahmad, Sindumin Assemblyman YB Datuk Hj Ahmad Hj Bujang, representatives from the People Development Leader Unit (UPKR), local villagers as well as PETRONAS’ employees.
“During the recent flood, more than 30 families from this area were affected. We hope this contribution will assist the people in Mesapol during flood season where response time is critical,” said Encik Hamdan.
The event also saw other community and family engagement activities such as a football competition in collaboration with the Sabah Football Association (SAFA), plus colouring and culinary competitions.
