PETALING JAYA: The police believe that a petrol bomb hurled at a car, resulting in a fire involving several vehicles at a car park in Taman
Jaya here today, stemmed from a domestic spat.
In the 1pm incident, a motorcyclist threw a petrol bomb into the rear seat of a stationary Proton Wira.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said a man and a woman who were in the car, however, managed to escape before flames engulfed the vehicle.
“Investigations revealed that the woman knew the motorcyclist and that they were believed to be having marital problems and in the process of a divorce,” he told reporters here.
In addition to the Proton Wira, five other cars parked nearby were also damaged in the blaze.
Pictures of the fire and thick smoke billowing from the car park went viral on social media with rumours of a bomb attack.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar issued a statement to say there was no bomb explosion.
“Someone set a car ablaze at parking lot of Taman Jaya, Petaling Jaya. There was no bomb explosion,” he tweeted.- BERNAMA
