KOTA KINABALU: Carelessness may well be the cause of a pedestrian’s death at Queen Elizabeth 1 Hospital, early this morning, after receiving emergency treatment at the hospital since last Wednesday.

The victim, Jasdin Awang, 26, was sent to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit as he was seriously injured  in an accident at Jalan Coastal, in front of Api Api Centre on 18 March.

“Based on the police initial investigation at the location, it was believed that the local man was trying to cross the road from Api Api Centre, heading to Star City, before he was hit by a car that failed to avoid him,” said the District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra, here today.

The victim who is from Kg. Sangau, Kota Kinabatangan, received serious injuries on his head, stomach, and broken arms.

“The victim was then sent to the hospital for emergency treatment,” he said, adding that the driver did not sustain any injury.

The case which was initially investigated under Section 43 (1) of Road Transportation Act 1987 has been moved to Section 41 (1) of the same Act due to the victim’s death. – SayangSabah
