KOTA KINABALU: Sabah People’s Rights Association urged for Local Authority (PBT) to repair the road at Jalan Giok – Poring, Ranau, about 148 kilometres from here. which is in a bad condition since two years ago.
Its President, Lee Pun Yee, said the road needs to be repaired immediately as it is the main route for tourists to their lodges and other tourism facilities.
“However, since the last two years the area had received lower influx of tourists due to its road condition which is difficult for any transports to go through,” he told the media in a press statement at Foh Sang, here today.
According to him, the road condition has forced some of the chalet owners in the area to close shops when they cannot cover their business operation costs.
“The situation is detrimental to the tourism industry development in the state,” he added.
Meanwhile, a tourist lodge manager in the area said the number of local tourists have also been decreasing.
“There are local tourists who cancel their stay as soon as they saw the condition of the road,” he said, insisting for his identity to be known only as Joe when contacted today.
According to Joe, he once submitted a complain about the matter to Ranau District Office, but has yet to receive any positive response until today.
“I do not understand why the 1 kilometre road has not been given any attention by the concerned parties,” he said.
In this regard, Lee calls for the related parties to repair and rebuild the road in order to help the tourism-based business owners in the area, which will be beneficial for the state’s tourism industries.
The road which is located about 400 metres from Poring Hot Spring, is the main passageway to several lodging facilities for foreign and local tourists. – SayangSabah
