KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) is against the implementation of hudud law in Malaysia because it is unconstitutional, said its president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.
Pairin who is also the Deputy Chief Minister said: “I think a lot of people had been saying that this isgoing backwards giving the fact that now many countries wants capital punishment to be abolished.”
He was asked to state the stand of PBS on the proposed implementation of hudud law in Kelantan after representing Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman in officiating the Sabah State-level World Water Day cum Conference % Exhibition 2015 at a resort yesterday.
He said the syariah criminal code provided under hudud is already in existing the criminal procedure code.
“So how can we have two sets of penal codes,” Pairin asked.
He said even former deputy prime minister Tun Musa Hitam had personally stated that hudud was unsuitable for Malaysia so PBS is following along this line.-BERNAMA
