KOTA KINABALU: The last group of tourist guides from Sabah Native Registered Tourist Guide Association (PBBNS) comprising nearly 170 members from Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan have completed their migration course recently.
Tourist guides who held the blue and green badges were required to attend the course in order to migrate to gold badge, said PBBNS vice president Sarjeet Singh Ranjit who is one of the facilitators conducted the course.
“We now have approximately 600 members successfully gone through the course thus Sabah now has tourist guides who are well versed in both city and nature tours. The migration to gold badge is one of the efforts to upgrade the standard of guiding in the state so that they can carry out their job professionally as they can conduct both the city and nature tours at the same time,” he said.
In the past this was not allowed as the blue badge are restricted for city tour whilst green badge meant for nature tour only, he explained.
The course was conducted by Malaysian Tourist Guides Council president Jimmy Leong and assisted by Sarjeet, PBBNS president Dabalun Balau, secretary general Herman Khanis and other dedicated supreme council members.-Sayangsabah
