KOTA KINABALU –Lecturers, professors and personnel of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) need to undergo a paradigm shift in other for the establishment to be significance.
To be a world class innovative university, Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Harun Abdullah said they need to be committed in achieving this end.
“We need a paradigm shift to improve our work and performances. We must not think that we are merely earning our livelihood here. We need to be committed to our responsibilities,” he said in his message to the UMS community, here today.
Harun stated that the most important function of a university is to produce high quality human capital for the nation.
“Our main agenda is to provide excellent education, training and learning to our students. Human capital should be a priority and this is the foundation of success towards a more excellent development,” he said.
As UMS hits 20 years, Harun believed that strategic measures needed to be implemented.
“We have work on the UMS 2013-2017 Strategic Plan which had conceptualized in 2013. The five years plan will help to achieve the university’s mission and vision,” he said.
He also disclosed that the university encourage lecturers and professors to published academic articles, journals and books.
“We actually won several awards for published works,” he said.
On other developments, UMS also launched an online bookstore that will be made available to the public early March this year.
The online bookstore will offer more than 500 books and journals published by UMS.
