Over 3500 students of IPTA/S in Sabah joined the ASEAN forum

KOTA KINABALU – Over 3500 students from  both public and private institutions of higher education (IPTA/S) attended Publicity and Public Diplomacy programme that was held by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) at Lecture Hall 2 in UMS, today.

The programme started with a short presentation on Associations of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) history carried out by Datuk Muhammad Shahrul Ikram  Yaakob, Director-General, ASEAN-Malaysia National Secretariat, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia.

Students were informed on the participation of ASEAN organisations by Director of the International Youth Centre (IYC), Azura Abidin.

She spoke on the role of Ministry of Youth and Sports on youth development in the ASEAN region.

“We demand high involvement from the youth in Malaysia to participate in ASEAN activities as our country will be hosting the 26th ASEAN Summit this year,” she added.

According to the lecturer of Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage, UMS, Professor Doctor Kamarulzaman Askandar, youth involvement in Malaysia should promote peace-building in ASEAN region.

Question and Answer (Q&A) session was also held by them in order to respond all inquiries from students.

The programme will be continued tomorrow with a forum entitled “Perjanjian Pembentukan Malaysia 1963” at 9a.m in the same location. – By Saila Saidie/Sayangsabah
