KOTA KINABALU: University of Otago (UOO) Ecology Degree Programme Director, Professor Phil Bishop foresees a promising future for both UOO and University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) students at long term ecological monitoring sites in the state’s conservation areas.
He said both Malaysians and New Zealanders can collaborate at these sites which are yet to be set up and establish research on tropical ecology.
Prof. Phil and UOO representative from the Department of Chemistry, Professional Practice Fellow, Dr Dave Warren visited UCSF Vice Chancellor, Datuk Ghazally Ismail at UCSF before proceeding with their trip to Maliau Basin.
The relationship between UOO and UCSF is an ideal relationship, said Prof. Phil.
Discussions are taking place to strengthen their relationship which has been formed through an MOU which was carried out early this month.
According to him, they have been sending students to conduct research in the Antarctic and temperate forests. “One of the things we are missing in New Zealand is tropical ecology. We need our students to have experience of doing work in the tropics.”-Sayangsabah
