KOTA KINABALU: Thirty three illegal immigrants were arrested for not having proper travel documents, in an operation launched in Bandar Sierra, Menggatal, today.
The recent arrests was the result of inspection done by the authority on 108 immigrants at the construction sites in Bandar Sierra, Menggatal, which started at 9.00am to 4.30pm on Wednesday.
“The operation was launched as a response to public information during the police programme with the community which was held at 28 February,” said the District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra, here today.
According to him, all 33 illegal immigrants had been sent to the police station to undergo documentation process and investigation under Section 6(1)(c) Immigration Act 1959.
In the operation the police also arrested 10 men including two locals for drug positive, he added.
All suspects are investigated under Section 15(1)(a) Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Two police officers and 107 personnels from various state and federal enforcement agencies were involved in the operation, he said. – SayangSabah
