KOTA KINABALU: Open houses during festive season will encourage the tourism industry in the state.
Kota Kinabalu Mayor, Datuk Abidin Madingkir, said the culture attracts the interest of both domestic tourists and foreign visitors.
“The communities who attend (open house) each year are not only locals who are from other ethnicities or faith, but also tourists. This practice will subsequently improve the city’s image and encourage tourism,” he said to the media during the DBKK Aidilfitri Open House at the Community Hall here, today.
Also present at the event were the Head of State of Sabah, Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Haji Juhar bin Mahiruddin, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Seri Panglima Hajah Norlidah binti Tan Sri R.M Jasni.
Touching on the event, he said the DBKK open house is to close the ties between the department’s employees and city residents.
In the event, Hajah Norlidah with the company of Puspanita Kota Kinabalu Branch Chairperson, Datin Florence Malangkig, and her deputy, Datin Rohaya Pawzy, presented Raya donation and hampers to 20 orphans from Sembulan Rumah Anak Kesayangan (RAK) orphanage.
The welfare centre which was set up to help orphans and poor communities in early 2008 is patronized by the Malaysia Medical Welfare and Services Foundation (YKPPM) and managed two dorm facilty rented monthly to accommodate more than 80 school children and kindergarten.
Other honourable guests at the event were the DUN Deputy Speaker, Datuk Johnny Mositun, the state Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Seri panglima Masidi Manjun, his deputy, Datuk Kamarlin Ombi, DBKK chief Director, Datuk Yeo Boon Hai, and DBKK employees. More than 300 guests attended the open house.
In another development, the Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Hajjah Jainab Ahmad Ayid welcomes the appointment of the new DUN Speaker, Datuk Syed Abas Syed Ali, who replaced Senator Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Mohd Salleh Tun Said Keruak.
She also express her hope for gender equality to be part state government administration policy to enable all parties to receive fair treatment. – SayangSabah
