KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters with cooperation from Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Road Safety Department has launched the Op Selamat Campaign for Chinese New Year which begins tomorrow.
“The campaign is to create awareness among drivers on road safety when they’re returning to their hometown,” said the Police District Chief, Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra, to the media after launching the campaign at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, this morning.
Also present at the launching campaign is Sabah JKJR Director, Ediansha Abd Rahim, and JPJ Enforcement Officer, Azmi Abd Dait, representing JPJ Director.
Some 50 goodies bags were distributed among drivers with five motorcycle helmets donated by JKJR.
Chandra said, the campaign is also the continuation for the previous Op Selamat campaign launched by the State Police Contingent Headquarters, recently.
He also advised the public who are considering for long holidays to inform the police.
“This is to make it feasible for the police to look after their residence while they are away to prevent unwanted incident,” he added.
He also announced holiday suspension for police personnels, beginning from 21 February until 2 March.
Previously, Chandra also presented 26 certificates of appreciation to officials and personnels that has shown exemplary performances in their duties. – SayangSabah
