JERLUN:  The learning session continues as normal despite only one pupil registering for Year One at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chee Nan, here.

Its headmistress Lai Hoi Tien said the pupil, Lau Chun Yih, 7, was placed in a Year One class and the learning session started routinely based on the syllabus provided.

She said only two pupils registered to enter the school, which is located on the fringe of the city of Alor Setar, last year.

“We have 13 students from Year One to Year Six with nine teachers. The school achieved 100 per cent passes in the Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR) from 2013 until last year,” she said when met by reporters today.

Lau’s mother, Chong Mee Kim, 50, said she picked the school due to its low number of pupils which would enable the teachers to focus on her son. Law is the younger of two siblings.

The housewife, who stays at Tokang Yard, Alor Setar said it was an advantage for her son as the teachers would help him master difficult subjects.

“When registering recently, I already knew only my son would be entering Year One. I noticed he was happy and excited when starting his schooling session,” she added.- BERNAMA
