KOTA KINABALU: OKUs must be registered with the Welfare Department so that they could be accorded due attention.
The state Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Hajah Jainab Ahmad Ayid, said it is important for the government to know the exact number of OKUs in the state in order for it to come up with a policy and necessary strategy to help the group.
“Those who have been registered will receive a OKU card, where it will give them rights to enjoy facilities provided by government departments,” she said during the closing ceremony for OKU efficiency workshop and forum, here today.
Jainab added that the state Welfare Services Department provides institutions to care the group and give skills training at its Rehabilitation and Training Complex in Kimanis.
OKUs are also eligible to receive the EPC work allowance of RM300 monthly for full-time OKU employee with a salary less than RM1,200 per month, she said. –SayangSabah
