KOTA KINABALU: Rumah Sinai Pelangi is an institution for OKU community in Lahad Datu and will begin operations by January next year.
Sabah Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Jainab Ahmad, said the institution is to give protection and care service for OKU individuals aged 14 years old and above.
“The institution construction has been completed in 2013, costing RM4.407 million and it is the first OKU institute for adults in Sabah under the management of Sabah Public Welfare Services Department,” she said at the state legislative assembly.
She was responding to the question raised by Datuk Mohammad Yusof Apdal (BN-Lahad Datu) on operations of the OKU institution in Lahad Datu.
She added that currently there are 10 OKUs identified to be accommodated at the facility.
She also said the state Public Welfare Services Department is in the process to apply for allocation from the Ministry of Finance for the institution’s equipments, and to seek more employees to run its operations. – SayangSabah
