KUALA LUMPUR: Leaders and grassroots members concurred with UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak that obedience to leaders and solidarity are the key factors for the party to remain strong.
In order to achieve this, they agreed each UMNO member should put aside their emotions and personal interests, and understand their roles and their responsibilities as enshrined in the party constitution.
UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said party members should be loyal and obedient to the party leaders, especially when the party was facing various tests at this time.
“The Umno president touched on loyalty and obedience to the party, we go back to the party constitution and their respective responsibilities, no matter how emotional you are in giving personal insight, what matters most is the party.
“The party has its constitution, code of ethics and regulation, to maintain the party’s position,” said the Defence Minister when commenting on the UMNO president’s speech at the opening of the UMNO General Assembly today.
The UMNO president in his policy speech at the Assembly had among others emphasised on the importance of loyalty and allegiance to the party leadership in good or challenging times.
Wanita UMNO chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the party would get stronger if all party members could adopt and maintain the concept of loyalty and allegiance to the party supreme leader.
She also concurred with Najib’s policy speech saying UMNO deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should always assist the president as stated in the constitution, and believed a greater success could be achieved if everyone was united.
Puteri UMNO chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin described unity and solidarity as the key to resolve various conflicts that have been plaguing the party and the country at the moment.
She said in order to become a role model to outsiders, the government should adopt an ‘open-mind’ and always in ‘self-reflection’ to ensure the main goal of the party’s struggle could be achieved.- BERNAMA
