SHAH ALAM: The High Court here today sentenced a Nigerian national to death after he was found guilty of trafficking 915.6 grammes of methampethamine three years ago.

Judge Datuk Wan Afrah Wan Ibrahim was satisfied that the prosecution had succeeded in proving the case beyond reasonable doubt against the accused, Ekene Collins Isaac, 37.

Thirteen prosecution witnesses and a defence witness were called to testify at the trial.

The man, a cleaner in Nigeria, was charged with drug trafficking at the toilet of Ward 6C of Serdang Hospital, Jalan Puchong, Kajang, near here, between 7.20 am on March 3 and 1 pm on March 5, 2012.

He was charged under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and sentenced under Section 39B (2) of the same act, which carries a mandatory death sentence.

The drug was found in the body of the accused after he swallowed it before leaving for Malaysia.

Deputy public prosecutor Nazir Amir Johari conducted the prosecution while the accused was represented by counsel V. Samynathan. – BERNAMA
