TAWAU: NGOs are urged to launch their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives with the focus of welfare.

Sabah Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan, said the move will fulfil the nation’s agenda on social and community services through NGOs’ involvement in helping the government to cater the needs of the public, especially in rural areas.

He was speaking during the Membara Back to School Programme and Berkhatan ceremony at Kg. Wakuba Multipurpose Hall, Tawau.

He said the government does not deny the public of their needs, and instead provides various facilities for their comfort. But at the same time the participation of organizations and NGOs will be a vital agent in channelling assistance to the grassroot communities.

The Apas Assemblyperson also said the efforts carried out by PERKEMA, Sabah Zakat Centre, Sabah Islamic Council, and Apas DUN Office, are sincere in reducing the burden of parents in preparing the necessities for their children for the next school session.

At the event, Datuk Tawfiq also presented PERKEMA’s donation of school equipments and bags to 100 children who participated the berkhatan ceremony.

Also present were the ministry’s Political Secretary, Haji Naim Haji Ahmat, Apas DUN Community Development Leader, Sarman Amat Simiti, and local community leaders. –SayangSabah
