New membership will strengthen UMNO for the next GE – Yahya

PUTATAN: The increase of UMNO membership will strengthen the party and close the relations between the state and federal govenrment, said Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Yahya Hussin.

He said, the new members who have reached the age of 21 years old will be registered as voters, and thus strengthening the party for the next General Election (GE).

“Every UMNO division in the state including the Women, Youth, and Puteri need to step-up their efforts to increase UMNO memberships and registering them as voters.

“We target as much new members that we can get. The more the better,” he said when met during officiating Putatan Division UMNO event to welcome its new members, at Dewan Serbaguna Pasir Putih, here yesterday.

Also present at the event were UMNO Division Vice Chief, Haji Arsit Sedi, Chairman of Putatan Division Voter Registration and Membership Bureau, Datuk haji Ibrahim OKK Laiman Diki, Women Division Chief, Puan Juliah palasi, UMNO Division Secretary, Encik Ishar Ramli, Information Chief, Haji Othman Hamid, and party branch leaders.

Yahya who is also UMNO Sabah Liaison Secretary, hopes for more young graduates from public or private education institution to join UMNO.

“UMNO is the backbone of the ruling government, and the young generation needs to uphold UMNO’s struggle as their own,” he stressed.

Yahya, as Putatan Division UMNO Chief, wants the new members to be loyal to UMNO’s struggles in improving the lives and future of the Malays in Sabah.

Meanwhile, Haji Ibrahim said, his bureau has received 426 new membership last year, and 50 new members are registered at the event.

UMNO party members especially the newly registered need to remember UMNO membership is not for them to gain projects or personal profit, as UMNO strive for the wellbeing of the Muslim and Malay communities in Sabah, Ibrahim added.

“Voter Registration and Membership Bureau will continue to organize activities to find new members to join UMNO in areas we have not yet reached,” he said. – SayangSabah
