TAWAU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) will introduce new measures to control the sale of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at Pulau Sebatik.
Its secretary-general, Datuk Seri Alias Ahmad said they include allowing only citizens and permanent residents to buy LPG gas tanks from December 1.
“Only one supplier is allowed to bring LPG to the island compared to 78 presently for only 1,219 families in 16 villages,” he told a press conference after chairing a joint meeting of enforcement agencies here, today.
Alias said they will also review the 33 licence holders in Pulau Sebatik with the aim to reduce by up to 50 per cent based on the real needs of users. Only one jetty will be used to deliver LPG and they will also consider applications to export LPG to neighbouring countries.-BERNAMA
