TAWAU: Students of the Open University of Malaysia (OUM) of Tawau branch will be able to use better facilities with the university’s new building.

Deputy Director of Tawau OUM, Vera Voo Mui Yin, said the new building is located at the area of Bandar Sri Indah, about 24 kilometers away from Tawau city centre.

According to her, the new building will be officiated by the Education Deputy Minister 1, who is also Tawau MP, Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching.

“OUM of Tawau branch has begun its students intake programmes since May 2002 where at that time it did not have a permanent building facility. OUM Tawau rented its first building at Taman Berjaya, then moved to UiTM Tawau, SJK Sin Hwa, and Wisma Jin Ho, before we have our own building at Bandar Sri Indah Tawau,” she said.

Vera said, currently there are twelve programmes offered by the branch with eight of the courses are for bachelor degree in management, human resource management, accounting, and Islamic studies, with 1,503 graduates have completed their studies since 2002 until last year. – SayangSabah
