KOTA KINABALU- The Navy Day Regatta event hoped to find a new local talent in the sport.

Regatta’s Head of Secretariat, Mohamad Hanif Husain said the main goal of the programme was to identify talented athlete to represent Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA).

“There are 60 participants who took part in this tournament with 10 categories and most of the participants are from family of Navy as well as residents. This is their chance to show their skills in order to get selected as the future SUKMA athletes,” he said.

Accoding to First Admiral, Zulhelmy Ithnain, Regatta was successful with the help of sport associations.

“The Ministry of Youth and Sports, Sabah Sailing Association and sailing clubs have contributed to the success of the Regatta. The involvement of Universiti Malaysia Sabah’s during this tournament has been tremendously helpful,” he said.

The Clubs involved in the event were Pusat Perkembangan Perahu Layar Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia (PPLTLDM), Sabah Sailing Association (Saila), Kinabalu Yacht Club (KYC), Sandakan Yacht Club (SYC) and Navy Yacht Club Kota Kinabalu (NYCKK).   – Sayangsabah
