KOTA KINABALU: The first batch of 60 Sabah Native Registered Tourist Guide Association (PBB) members has successfully passed the Region Specific Tourist Guide License (RSTG) course recently.

PBB vice president Sarjeet Singh Ranjit, said the training was a migration course to streamline the local tour guides from the present green and blue licensed badges to one single gold badge.

Green badge is for conducting nature tour whilst blue badge is for handling city tour and these two badges would be gradually phase out and replaced by only the gold badge, explained Sarjeet.

“So now the gold badge holders can conduct both the nature and city tours at the same time without restriction because before this they are limited to specific area only,” said Sarjeet.

He said the pioneer batch of candidates attended and sat for the examination during the four weeks intensive course organised and conducted by senior members of the PBB at the Borneo Tourism Institute here.

To date, he said PBB have about 600 members throughout the State and the migration course is ongoing to upgrade the standard of the local guiding personnel.

Besides the RSTG, He said PBB will continue to provide other educational programmes such as the Continuing Tourism Related Education (CTRE) course and the wildlife warden course for its members.

“All these courses are gear towards enhancing the knowledge and professionalism of our local tour guides,” said Sarjeet.- By Bosco Wong/Sayangsabah.
