KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian police have raised the national security alert to the highest level in the wake of the bomb blasts today in Jakarta, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
He said increased security measures had been put in place at public places such as shopping malls and tourist spots.
“Extra precautionary measures will be implemented in the border areas to prevent possible infiltration by terrorist elements,” he said in a statement.
Khalid said those on the police radar suspected to be related to terrorist activities would be monitored closely.
He assured the people that all police personnel nationwide were on constant vigilance.
“We are closely monitoring the latest developments to ensure that the safety and security of our people are safeguarded,” he said.
Khalid said the police had been stepping up preventive measures to pre-empt such incidents in Malaysia over the last few months following several terrorist-related incidents that had taken place around the globe. – BERNAMA
