KOTA KINABALU: The state government welcomes the proposal to organize the National level Mosques Futsal League by Sabah Islamic Affairs Department (JHEAINS) and Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim) of Sabah.
Assistant Minister for the Chief Minister, Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, said the proposal made by JHEAINS and Jakim to set up the sports tournament will bring youths in Sabah closer to the mosques communities.
“This programme will help the young generation to get involve with religious activities, and it shows that the mosque is not only a place of worship, but also where the community can preserve their close ‘silaturrahim’ and engage in social activities,” he said when met by reporters after officiating the Sabah Islamic Agencies Leauge (Lisan 2015) event at Dewan Sa’adah, Wisma Muis.
The sports competition was participated by 13 teams from Islamic Da’wah Foundation Malaysia (Yadim) Sabah, Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis), Malaysia Muslim Youth Movement (ABIM), Sabah Malaysia Islamic Economic Development Foundation (Yapeim), Pilgrims Fund Board, Jakim, Sabah Mufti Office, Sabah Syariah Judiciary Department, United Sabah Islamic Association (USIA), Malaysia Royal Police, Malaysia Armed Forces (ATM), Baitulmal and Concern.
Also present at the event was the Mufti of Sabah, Datuk Aziz Bongsu.
There were eight sports events contested at the competition, such as badminton, volleyball, takraw, and bowling.
Regarding on the tournament, Mohd Arifin recommends that the organizer to hold the sports competition as an annual event, after it has been nine years since it was last held. – SayangSabah
